Pepeha

Hi everyone, today I'm going to be talking to you about My pepeha. A pepeha is when you talk about where you are from and also if you want you can add a little bit about your ancestors. I will show you what my pepeha looks like and then below it there is a Maori to English version. And also a story of the taniwha Paneiiraiira that swam in front of the Tainui waka to calm the waters in front.

Tena koutou e te whanau - Greetings everybody (family)

Ko Taupiri toku maunga tapu - Taupiri is my sacred mountain,
Ko Waikato toku awa - Waikato is my river,
Ko Tainui toku waka - Tainui is my waka,
Ko  Tainui toku iwi - Tainui is my tribe,
Ko Waahi paa toku marae - Waahi paa is my Marae,
He piko he taniwha - A taniwha on every bend
He piko he taniwha - A taniwha on every bend
No Waikato I tupuna mai - My ancestors are from Waikato,
I tipu ake ahau ki Otautahi - I grew up in Christchurch,
E noho ana  ki Otautahi - I live in Christchurch,
Ko Richard toku Matua - Richard is my Papa,
Ko Kelly toku whaea - Kelly is my Mama,
Ko Tyrell toku parata - Tyrell is my brother,

Ko Mereana Morgan toku ingoa - My name is Mereana Morgan.

Te puurakau o Paneiiraiira - The story of Paneiiraiira the taniwha
Ko Paneiiraiira toona ingoa - His name is Paneiiraiira
I kaukau ia i mua i te waka o tainui - He swam in front of tainui waka
Naa Paneiiraiira i marino i ngaa wai - It was Paneiiraiira who calmed the waters

Nō reira, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā tātou katoa.
